Lachlan Staples wins inaugural Paulus Wildeboer scholarship!

15 Jul 2016

Lachlan Staples, Head Coach of Southside Aquatics, is one of four inaugural winners of the 2016 Paulus Wildeboer Coaching Scholarship. Swimming Queensland is pleased to announce the inaugural Paulus Wildeboer Coaching Scholarship has been awarded to Lachlan Staples (Southside Aquatics), Paul Jones (Ambrose Treacy), Richard McLean (Toowoomba Grammar) and James Boyce (Cotton Tree).

SQ was able to increase the number of recipients of the 2016 scholarship to four due to the support of the Queensland Academy of sport.  Lachlan, with the other winners, will attend the American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic in September this year and will also visit the home program of a leading US Coach.

The scholarship
honours the late Paulus Wildeboer, who was SQ Mentor Coach 2013-2014, and whose visionary work was a catalyst for change in the identification and development of talented swimmers.

Paulus visited Southside Aquatics in 2013 soon after his arrival in Australia.

He gave a talk to parents of swimmers at the SQ State Championships in December 2013 outlining the key points in his approach to tap into Australia's swimming talent and protect our young swimmers from burnout. Notes from the talk are available here.
