Pool Improvement Works Complete

18 Nov 2018

 

The 2018 capital improvement works at the pool are now complete and the pool is looking great! The works, funded by a Queensland Government “Get Playing Places & Spaces” infrastructure grant to the Club, include a new shed providing an undercover training area and storage, more shading around the pool with the construction of large shade structures, and re-surfacing of the pool deck with new artificial turf “decking”.

Southside Aquatics expands to second venue

It is with great excitement that we announce Absolute Aquatics and Southside Aquatics (SSA) have successfully tendered for the John Paul College (JPC) swimming contract commencing from 1 January 2019. This means that Southside Aquatics will be the competitive vehicle for swimmers at Redeemer Lutheran College and John Paul College.

Junior Development Camp 2018

Twenty-six junior SSA swimmers attended this year’s club Junior Development Camp on 6-7 October at the Gold Coast Recreation Centre, Tallebudgera. Dual Olympian Thomas Fraser-Holmes made a short appearance as a guest coach!

Southside Aquatics now counts 4 technical officials

Southside Aquatics is pleased to announce that our Club technical officials Stuart Gibbs and Sharon Kennedy will now be joined by Vicki Gibbs and daughter Kymbalee Gibbs. This gives us a total of FOUR technical officials – one of the highest numbers of any Club in Queensland. We look forward to seeing them all on pool deck at competition meets!

 

 

 

 


 

Senior Development Camp 2018

The 2018 Southside Aquatics Senior Development Camp was another overwhelming success! Twenty-six of our senior swimmers enjoyed activities including exercise and gym work, swimming training, a dip in a spa (!), beach surfing, and even an afternoon of dance!

Farewell to assistant coach Jake Ross

Southside Aquatics recently farewelled Assistant Coach Jake Ross. Jake has been coaching with the club for over 3 years working with swimmers in the State Squad. Jake has a driving passion for swimming and, prior to his coaching role, competed for 6 years with Southside Aquatics at both State and National levels, swimming in the 2014 Commonwealth Games Trials and being a Queensland Age Short Course Medallist. Jake was presented with his Certificate of Honorary Club Membership at our last club Night in recognition of his contribution to Southside Aquatics as both a swimmer and a coach. Congratulations Jake!

 


 

Junior Development Camp 2017

Twenty-eight junior swimmers from Southside Aquatics Swim Club attended the club’s Junior Development Camp on 16-17 September 2017 at the Gold Coast Recreation Centre. With Head Coach Lachlan Staples and coaches Kira Gibbs and Alana Weich, the juniors enjoyed a range of activities including swim development sessions, beach activities, games in the park and the opportunity to complete a high ropes challenge!

Head Coach Lachlan Staples wins scholarship again in 2017!

Southside Aquatics Swim Club congratulates our Head Coach Lachlan Staples upon winning the 2017 Paulus Wildeboer Coaching Scholarship!  Lachlan is one of eight recipients announced by Swimming Queensland. Lachlan will join Stephan Widmer (SAL State Head Coach, Queensland) and Drew McGregor (SQ Coach Development Director) with other scholarship recipients at the 2017 World Swimming Championships in Budapest as part of the SQ Coach Tour. It is Lachlan's second win as he was one of the inaugural winners of this Scholarship in 2016.

Our Southside Aquatics Junior Dolphins have splashed into view in our pool! We currently have six Junior Dolphins! They recently received their new Junior Dolphins shirts at Club Night and all looked very professional and ready for action!

 

 

 

 

 


 

Club website launched!

Southside Aquatics proudly launched the Club’s new website at a recent Club Night. On Friday 25 November 2016, the new website went live and was launched to members. The website is hosted by Swimming Australia (SAL) and uses their newest format. While still a work-in-progress, the Club Committee wanted to make the website available to members as soon as possible and to confirm the club’s presence online.

 

 

 


 

Lachlan Staples wins inaugural Paulus Wildeboer scholarship!

The recipients of the inaugural Paulus Wildeboer Scholarship have been announced. Lachlan Staples, Head Coach of Southside Aquatics, is one of the four inaugural winners of the 2016 Paulus Wildeboer Coaching Scholarship. The scholarship honours the late Paulus Wildeboer, who was SQ Mentor Coach 2013-2014, and whose visionary work was a catalyst for change in the identification and development of talented swimmers. Paulus visited Southside Aquatics in 2013 soon after his arrival in Australia.

Bailey Coleman captures Australian age record!
